Adare Manor

“Neo-Gothic manor on the River Maigue with wooded grounds, formal gardens, and a championship parkland course.”

Our Review

Location & Setting

Adare Manor sits on the banks of the River Maigue in the heritage village of Adare, County Limerick. The estate unfolds across 840 acres of parkland and formal gardens, with tree-lined paths and water meadows that encourage slow exploration between activities. Trout-rich stretches of the river, traces of medieval history, and a sense of rural quiet give the property a country-house atmosphere despite its easy access to Ireland’s west and southwest.

Design & Heritage

This 19th-century Neo-Gothic manor was conceived as a “calendar house,” celebrated for its 365 leaded windows and 52 chimneys. Gargoyles, heraldic carvings and richly worked stone nod to a romantic vision of the Gothic Revival. Inside, The Gallery—132 feet long and inspired by grand European halls—sets the tone for afternoon tea and unhurried promenades beneath clerestory light. After a meticulous restoration and expansion completed in 2017, the house balances historical fabric with contemporary comforts, preserving its theatrical silhouette while refining flow and finish.

Rooms & Suites

The accommodation comprises 104 bedrooms, including a sympathetic West Wing addition that increased capacity without disrupting the manor’s proportions. Rooms differ in layout but share a plush, residential style: high ceilings, generous wardrobes, and marble bathrooms with separate tubs and walk-in showers. Materials lean into warmth—textiles, leather and wood—so the spaces feel welcoming rather than museum-like. Views take in formal gardens, woodland, or the golf course; interconnecting options and multi-bedroom suites suit families or small groups traveling together.

Dining

The culinary centerpiece is The Oak Room, a Michelin-starred restaurant where tasting menus showcase Irish produce with precise, uncluttered technique. For a more relaxed mood, The Carriage House serves as the estate brasserie and social hub, open daily for lunch and dinner and popular with golfers. Within the manor, The Gallery hosts an elegant afternoon tea, while bars such as the whiskey-forward Tack Room broaden the evening options. The overall program gives guests a credible choice between celebratory dining and low-key meals without leaving the grounds.

Wellness, Golf & Activities

The spa focuses on results-driven treatments featuring 111SPA/CLINIC, complemented by a calm pool and modern fitness facilities at the Padel Club. Outdoors, the estate lends itself to archery, clay shooting, garden walks and fishing on the Maigue, so days can be as active or languid as you prefer. Golfers will note the championship course redesigned by Tom Fazio—a meticulous rebuild with fast, contoured greens and sophisticated drainage—set to host the 2027 Ryder Cup. Between the course, riverside lawns and courts, the property reads as a complete resort rather than a static historic hotel.
